Lakshya Dave, an alumnus of VMU's MA programme in Applied English Linguistics, shared his insights during the event for students within the VMU Career Centre Remote Informal Lecture Series: "Towards Yourself '24".

Dave, originally from India and now a Growth Marketing Manager, mentioned that he has both taken part in and conducted interviews throughout his relatively short four-year career. He has worked at four different locations, spanning Lithuania and Cyprus.

Dave's journey in Lithuania began with his bachelor’s and master’s studies, followed by five years of work experience in marketing. His professional endeavors have taken him through companies based in Cyprus, Mexico, and Lithuania. Drawing from his background, Lakshya offers practical advice tailored to navigating the Lithuanian job market.

Make a Lasting Impression

Dave emphasizes the significance of understanding your position in the interview process. By the time you receive an interview invitation, you're already in the final rounds, indicating interest from the hiring team.

Establish Personal Connections

Humanizing the interview process is key, according to Dave. Treat interviewers as individuals rather than intimidating figures. Employ techniques similar to building rapport in social interactions, such as finding common ground and engaging in light-hearted conversation.

Ask Thoughtful Questions

Demonstrate your interest in the role and the company by asking insightful questions. Show your sincere curiosity and engage with interviewers beyond scripted responses.

Follow Up with Gratitude

After the interview, extend your appreciation to the interviewers with a personalized thank-you email. This simple gesture not only reflects professionalism but also reinforces your interest in the position. Dave's recommendation to maintain gentle persistence by following up after a week resonates with proactive job seekers seeking closure.

Speaking about today's competitive job market, persistence can be a game-changer. Dave mentioned that gentle reminders and strategic follow-ups in securing opportunities help candidates stand out amidst the competition.
