Don't stick with one field and widen your perspective for job search!

VDU

Rakshana Alexander from India is the VMU alumna of the Bachelor's study program in Biotechnology. She graduated in 2022. Rakshana works as a Sales Development Representative (SDR) at Sign On Tab (Lithuania). She shares some advice based on her practical experience of studying and job searching in Lithuania.

So, what current students must undertake now in order to become more employable in the Lithuanian job market after graduation?

I. Internship

Start looking for internships. It won't be easy to get one but keep trying. Internship experiences can add value to your CV.

II. Don't stick with one field

Widen your perspective for job search. Don't stick with one field. For example, if you study biotechnology, don't just search for jobs titled “Biotechnologist/Junior Biotechnologist”.

Look for other fields where you can still use your knowledge, for example, Sales Representatives for a Biotech company.

III. Language

Try to learn the language of the country where you wanna work. That will give you more chances of success.

IV. LinkedIn

Use LinkedIn wisely. You can find more jobs and companies and people you can network with. In fact, that is how I found both my Internship and Jobs.

V. Keep trying

Don't give up. Rejections are common and normal.

VI. Take it easy

When during an interview you feel nervous, just remember, the Company isn't trying to reject you. They are also looking for someone to take the job, not just you looking for a job. It's a mutual gain.
